Privacy Policy
Plain-language rundown of what we collect, what we don't, and how ads and cookies work on this site.
This policy covers DMV Fee Calculator (referred to below as "this site," "we," or "us"). If you have questions after reading it, the contact email is at the bottom of every page. Nothing here is meant to be dense legal filler — we tried to write it the way we'd actually explain it to someone.
What the calculator does with your inputs
The fee calculator on the homepage runs entirely in your browser. When you select a state, enter a vehicle year, weight, or purchase price, that information is used to calculate a result on the spot and is not sent to us, stored on our servers, or logged anywhere. Close the tab and it's gone. We don't ask for your name, VIN, license plate, or any information that would identify your specific vehicle, and we'd rather not have it — the calculator doesn't need it to give you an estimate.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider and any analytics tools we use collect some basic technical information automatically when you visit — things like your general browser type, device type, approximate location based on IP address, and which pages you viewed. This is standard server-log and analytics data, not something tied to your identity. We use it in aggregate to understand which pages are useful and to catch anything broken on the site.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for a few ordinary reasons: to remember basic preferences, to see general traffic patterns, and because our advertising partner requires them. Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so may affect how ads are shown to you, but it won't stop the calculator itself from working.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running this site. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites on the web. This is how most free websites, including large ones, stay free to use.
A few things worth knowing about this:
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
- We don't control what data Google's ad network collects or how long it retains it — that's governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours.
Third-party links
Some pages link out to official state DMV, DOT, MVD, RMV, or BMV websites so you can confirm exact figures or complete a transaction. Once you click through to one of those sites, their privacy policy applies, not ours. We don't have any control over what those sites collect and we'd encourage you to check their policy directly, especially before entering anything personal.
Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll look into removing it.
Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal to sites you visit. There isn't a uniform industry standard for how sites should respond to this yet, so like most sites, we currently don't change our behavior when we detect one. If that changes, this policy will be updated to reflect it.
Changes to this policy
If we update how the site handles data, cookies, or advertising, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. We don't expect the substance to change often — the calculator has always run client-side and that's not likely to change — but the ad network's requirements occasionally do, and we'll reflect that here when it happens.
